Join Whidbey violinist, Gloria Ferry-Brennan and visiting conductor Mr. Chao Li for the 2nd of 3 concerts as part of the ongoing search for a new conductor for Whidbey’s very own Saratoga Orchestra.

Chao Li studied the clarinet, piano and tenor trombone at the China Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing.  Accepted into the China Youth Symphony Orchestra at 16 yrs old he has performed with the China Youth Symphony Orchestra, Zubin Mehta, Itzhak Perlman and Isaac Stern.  Mr. Li has been awarded a full scholarships to the Seoul International Music Festival and Aspen Summer Music Festival and Harid Conservatory of Music  where he studied with Mr. Mark Hetzler and was a member of the Empire Brass Quintet.

In 2005, Mr. Li began studying orchestral conducting with the renowned conductor Mr. Arthur Weisberg.  A year later he began working as an assistant conductor at Midland Symphony Orchestra in Midland, Michigan. In 2009 he entered University of North Texas College of Music to pursue a Doctor of Musical Art degree with a focus on orchestral conducting. Mr. Li has served as the music director of Dallas Asian American Youth Orchestra and Assistant Conductor of the Lewisville Lake Symphony Orchestra in Lewisville, Texas.

A full time member of the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Saratoga Orchestra, Whidbey resident Gloria Ferry-Brennan began playing the violin at age 4 and is currently a student of Simon James and accompanist Hiro David of the Coleman Violin Studio.

2206995Gloria Ferry-Brennan has been as a soloist with the Saratoga Orchestra, the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, the Ottawa Chamber Orchestra, the Seattle Festival Orchestra and the Sammamish Symphony OrchestraSeattle Youth Symphony Orchestra and Everett Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Gloria has received awards and prizes from the Johansen International Competition for Young String Players, Music Teachers National Association Junior Strings Competition, and the From the Top Organization (appearing on NPR), been recognized as one of  ten exceptional student artists to participate in the Starling-DeLay Symposium for Violin Studies at The Juilliard School at Lincoln Center in New York City.

Gloria’s recent studies include the Brian Lewis Young Artist Program in Ottowa, Kansas, as well as the Aspen Music Festival where she studies with Shepherd School of Music professor Paul Kantor.

Legh W. Burns founding Conductor and Music Director of The Saratoga Orchestra will remain with the Orchestra as Conductor Emeritus.
