Every year the Whidbey Working Artists open their studios to the public with their Open Studio Tour.
This year Rob Schouten and Francy Blumhagen sat down to discuss the tour (50 artists represented), their work and some of the magical processes and inspirations they engage with as working artists.

2015 Whidbey Working Artists Open Studios
August 29 & 30 – 10am to 5pm daily
Rob Schouten: Working in oil glazes employing the Old Masters technique I paint detailed realism with a touch of magic and at times, a touch of humor. Nature, symbolism, mythology, quantum physics and the stars of the night sky are my inspiration. My paintings are crafted to instill a sense of wonder and mystery, and to reveal the esthetic beauty and radiance in ordinary things.
Francy Blumhagen: My inspiration comes from the natural world: birds, plants, fish, insects. I usually don’t depict my subjects in a strictly realistic form but rather let the natural beauty guide my thoughts and hands. My work includes mixed media/collage, various methods of printmaking, and handmade note cards.
